Smelvis lives all alone in the woods. Skunks can't bark or climb trees. The only way they can protect themselves is by spraying a terrible smell that drives away people and other critters. One day, Smelvis climbs into the garbage can in somebody's backyard. It belongs to a nice family with two happy children. At first they are afraid that Smelvis will spray them with that stinky smell. The cranky next door neighbor, Mr. Piffle, yells, Junk that skunk! The family calls the Animal Rescue Team to take Smelvis away and put him back in the woods. But their children love him so and ask their parents to keep him as a pet. The parents do not know what to do. Then something amazing happens: For the first time in his life, Smelvis feels loved. It makes him so happy that he sprays sweet perfume. Smelvis is tired of living alone so he moves in under their house.
