Newell, Grant: - Grant R Newell was born in 1951 in Middlesex. Grant left school at sixteen to start a five year apprenticeship, he then joined the Royal Anglian Regiment, (V) TAVR in 1971 and specialised as an anti-tank gunner. By the late 1970's Grant focused his military interests in researching the Battle of Arnhem. Invitation to become an Honorary member of the Luton Branch of the Parachute Regimental Association in 1980 provided Grant with first hand contact with Arnhem veterans. On retirement, Grant was able to begin assembling the hundreds of veteran accounts which form the basis of three volumes of personal reminiscences of the fighting.
