It's great that we honor and celebrate the accomplishments of African American heroes of the past such as: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, George Washington Carver, etc. They will always be remembered for laying the foundation for African Americans in this country and will never be forgotten. It's also great that we have an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of other African American heroes like President Barak Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, et al. But, in every community across America, you can find black people who are doing extraordinary things and they deserve to be celebrated as well. This book serves as a reminder to young people everywhere that they do not have to look to celebrities or famous people to find positive role models they can look up to and be proud of. They're among them every single day. Some of them may even be in their own home.
