Capturing Fashion - Gleb Derujinsky

Capturing Fashion

Andrea Derujinsky is Gleb Derunijsky's daughter. After her father's sudden death in a car crash, she discovered that he had been working on an autobiographical photography book about his Harper's Bazaar years; she picked up where he left off. She is an expert on fashion in the 1950s to 1960s, including the era's top models, which include her own late mother, Ruth Neumann-Derujinsky.

Gleb Derujinsky became one of the most sought after fashion photographers of his time, ultimately working exclusively for Harper's Bazaar for 18 years between 1950 and 1968. He was extraordinarily creative and revolutionized the fashion photography industry with editors Carmel Snow and Diana Vreeland. Derujinsky also went on to open his own photography studio in New York and shot for Esquire, Look, Life, Glamour, Town and Country, and The New York Times Magazine. More than a photographer, he completely transformed the fashion industry and travelled the world shooting models in less than conventional settings. He died in 2011 but his legacy continues as one of fashion's most favored photographers.
