Columbo, the rumpled television detective, appeared in more than 40 made for television features between 1971 and 1978. The character was originally seen in a telefeature in 1960, played by character actor Bert Freed. Then, in 1968, Columbo was brought back for a pilot film. It was 1971 however, when the series that we all know and love got fully underway.
