What's it like to go from Super Fan to Girlfriend?
That was my life for over 3 years. David Cassidy was one of the most popular and enduring teen idols of all time. During the early 1970s, David's fan club was greater in size than both The Beatles or Elvis Presley. His fans have squealed and screamed at the very sight of David Cassidy for over 50 years. I became one of those squealing, devoted fans in 1993. Until one night in 1997, when in the short span of 2 days, I went from a David Cassidy Super Fan, to David Cassidy's bedmate and confidant. What was he like? How did it happen? David took me to some of the highest highs I'd ever known, while sometimes, simultaneously, taking me to some of the darkest places of the heart. I had to learn to navigate my way through my life, on his terms; to figure out what parts of his life and heart that he would let me access. I could never have all of him...he was a proud father first. In second place--his career. Finally...he was a husband. In name only. Ironically, that was the part of himself that he touted most, but cared for least.
Within these pages, I'll describe our relationship, the intensity of what we had together, what we felt together, and how we were first drawn together. Is it possible to be too happy? To be too much in love? Can you love a fantasy? Yes. Should you? I'm still not sure. What I learned was to be careful what you wish for...It just might be "Half Heaven, Half Heartache."
