Fisher Ames Christian Founding Father & Federalist: Framer of Religious Freedom & Greatest Orator of the Early Republic

Fisher Ames Christian Founding Father & Federalist: Framer of Religious Freedom & Greatest Orator of the Early Republic - Harold M. Knudsen

Fisher Ames Christian Founding Father & Federalist: Framer of Religious Freedom & Greatest Orator of the Early Republic

Many Americans know the First Amendment as a protector of freedom of speech and press, but today, many forget that it also protects the right to practice religion freely. One of the contributing Founding Fathers, one who is nearly all but forgotten and unknown to current generations of Americans, was a Christian who actually worded the religious clauses in the First Amendment. His contributions to the nation were invaluable, yet his story has remained a mystery... until now.

In Fisher Ames Christian Founding Father & Federalist: Framer of Religious Freedom & Greatest Orator of the Early Republic, author Harold M. Knudsen brings to light the life and accomplishments of a Christian man who helped found a Christian nation. This biography is the first of its kind to explain Ames's contribution to the First Amendment, housing extensive research from letters, essays, and speeches written by Ames, illustrations that have never been published before, and more.

While perhaps his most enduring contribution was his writing the religious clauses of the First Amendment, he was also an ally to Alexander Hamilton and President Washington, served in the first United States Congress for eight years, fought successful legislative battles to advance the Federalist agenda, delivered his Jay Treaty Oration securing appropriations for Washington's treaty with Britain in 1796, and remained a Federalist oracle even when his ailing health forced him to leave Congress.

This man's story is one to remind Americans how this nation was always intended to be one under God.

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Harold M. Knudsen hails from Chicago and served twenty-five years on active duty. He has a master's degree from Georgetown, and authored James Longstreet the Confederate General Who Fought the Next War. Similar to his first book correcting historical inaccuracies, his second book tells of a forgotten Christian Founding Father who gave this nation a Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing freedom of religion.
