It is January 1916 and Max is a deep thinker who would like to believe there is a God. Although he attended church as a child, he has drifted away from his faith over the years. Now as the First World War rages on, he and the other soldiers in his division find little to cling onto other than the dwindling hope they will somehow survive. When Max finds himself on the battlefield of Verdun, he desperately leans on his faith for strength as he attempts to endure the terrible fighting. After he pledges to live a Christian life if God will save him from a potentially horrifying fate, Max survives and eventually returns to Germany when the war ends where he soon meets his future wife, Anna. After they marry, they raise two boys, Eddie and Maxie, and run a small business during the Great Depression and the rise of Hitler's Nazi regime. When Hitler plunges Germany into a second war even more terrible than the first, history seems to repeat itself as their sons hold onto their faith to survive a myriad of challenges and ultimately discover meaning and purpose through God's plan. Grace through Faith follows a family as they lean on God and His plan to survive the tumultuous history of Germany through the First and Second World Wars and their aftermath.
