His Scars for Mine: My Path Toward Spiritual Wellness Following the Race-based Atrocities in Orangeburg: 1968

De (autor): Emma Mccain Ed D.

In His Scars for Mine, Dr. Emma McCain, a retired educator and professional counselor, provides an insightful presentation of God's response to race-based human cruelty and offers resources designed to foster spiritual healing from long-term trauma.

The physical and emotional scars experienced by this author and her cohorts stemming from the Orangeburg massacre of 1968 have taken a lifetime to heal. Many remain traumatized, and unfortunately, others have passed away prior to recovery.

In addition, Dr. McCain's battle with a life-long neurological illness from being assaulted by police officers during that period has been an arduous journey.

Racially fractured church communities lack empathy toward victims of race-based trauma. However, those remembering the history of God's role in deliverance from oppression tend to provide hope, affirmation, and inclusiveness. The author emphasizes that ultimate healing comes by faith in Jesus Christ which gives us access to God's sufficient grace.

Dr. McCain is a Georgia State licensed and nationally certified private professional counselor. She is retired from public social services after 37 years of employment where she worked as a human services provider with the Georgia Department of Human Resources and as professional school counselor for all grade levels with Georgia Richmond County Schools. In addition, she has worked as an associate faculty member in Sociology and Cultural Diversity at various institutions of higher learning. She is author of Tales from Between the Cracks: The Quest for Academic Success Following Grade Retention among African American Male Students and two inspirational books, How to Recognize a Deadbeat: 101 Red Flags for Single Christian Women and From Church Hopping to Divine Expectancy: Transforming "Sunday Best" Church Experiences into Devoted Communion with the Hope of Glory.
