Jeff Kolpack has been covering college football for 30 years and specifically North Dakota State football since 1995 for The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead newspaper. He's won numerous writing awards over the years, something that is perhaps in the family. His father, Ed Kolpack, was a Pulitzer Prize winner as a member of the 1958 Forum staff. The NDSU football excellence started not long after that, morphing into a Division II power in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. But after a decade of being average, Jeff Kolpack began chronicling the resurrection of the program as a Division I school starting in 2004. The result, after a couple of troublesome years, was five straight Division I FCS national titles, a feat that had never been attained at any college football level.
