Tragedy has struck Johnnie Wise again as this romantic drama series opens with her leaving New Orleans. The teenage-girl sold into prostitution has found herself with no home and $250,000 lost forever. To make matters worse, Johnnie is without the support of her previous boyfriend Lucas Matthews and the larger-than-life crime lord Napoleon Bently.

Following the devastating loss she has just suffered, Johnnie heads for East Saint Louis, where her father lives to build a new life. However, she finds herself stranded in Jackson, Mississippi when her car breaks down. The local mechanic tells her it will be at least three weeks before her car can be repaired. To jumpstart her new life, she soon takes a job working at a nearby restaurant to earn some money.

As Johnnie settles into her new routine, she meets a handsome evangelist named Paul Masterson. Paul quickly becomes her hero after saving her during a vicious bar fight. Little does Johnnie know that everything is about to become more complicated when her former lover, Earl Shamus, comes back into her life. Earl's reappearance triggers a chain of events that will find Johnnie having to keep secrets and hide the truth in order to protect herself in this world of love, lust, scandal, death, and danger.
