When life hangs by a thread, miracles, angels, and messages can light the way.
On August 11, 2021, one of my twin daughters discovered she was pregnant with my first grandchild. It should have been a joyous time. Instead, I was in a coma with twenty tubes invading my body. The ventilator was monitored by dozens of worried nurses and doctors who were concerned about kidney failure. There was also concern that I may have a mild heart attack. The bottom line was my systems were shutting down! "He's not responding...," the lead doctor called out.
I had taken a turn for the worse.
I was declared "Patient Zero" at the Wellstar North Fulton Hospital on July 25, 2021. It's a rather dubious honor. It means I was the first person admitted to that hospital with the COVID-19 Delta Variant, and the doctors were at a loss as to how to treat it. They were back to square one as everything they had used on the first version of COVID did not work on Delta.
On this roller coaster ride of emotions, family, friends, and thousands of people I didn't even know from around the country, and the globe were taken to their limits while I hung onto every prayer chain post during my battle with the Delta Variant of COVID-19.
This is the true story of what happened leading to those fateful days and what happened after them.
