Payne, Dale: - Growing up in Alabama in the 1950s and 60s, Dale was the oldest of six siblings. She was in the kitchen often and at an early age. Her mother and grandmother were great cooks and poured their knowledge into her. She was standing on a stool at the stove before she was tall enough to reach it from the floor. Her father and grandfather hunted, fished, and always kept a garden. Mrs. Dee has witnessed pigs, goats, and deer being slaughtered and prepared for the dinner table.
