In a series of personal stories and essays, Talk Therapy, considers how psychotherapy contributes to work in the field of mental health and mental illness. Written and edited by Marguerite Valentine, and based on the thoughts and experiences of four radically trained psychotherapists, they range from why see a therapist, the 'fifty minute hour', and how milieux therapy differs from the traditional one-to-one. More philosophical and theoretical issues are also discussed; how can mental illness be understood, are theories based on the idea of the unconscious still relevant, and can psychotherapy be seen as a more successful treatment than medication alone?
