Cum putem obține o minte conștientă? Având în vedere că mintea și conștiința se obțîn prin conexiunile dintre celulele cerebrale, de ce nu putem obține o minte conștientă și în afara creierului (în special în afara creierului uman)? O comparație de domeniul științifico-fantastic este acea comparație dintre mintea conștientă și inteligența artificială. Această analiză este efectuată de David Eagleman în ultimul capitol al cărții "Creierul: povestea noastră".
Cumva unele lucruri după ce le înțelegi îți par extrem de banale. De exemplu, nimic din natură nu este ce pare a fi. Totul este o transformare în impulsuri electrochimice a unor vibrații sau lumini, transformare realizată de receptorii noștri. Cu toate astea, dintr-un spectru foarte larg, reușim să recepționăm foarte puține unde.
Ca în cartea "Incognito", David Eagleman transformă informații științifice în niște poveșți foarte ușor de înțeles pentru o persoană mai puțîn familiarizată cu termeni medicali. Prin această transformare, aduce deja o abordare unică, pe care cel puțîn până acum nu am regăsit-o la alți autori.
