In 1967, Army Staff Sergeant Joseph A. Hébert gets stationed in Germany where he meets and falls in love with Ava, a beautiful young German lady. The problem is, Ava is married to an army lieutenant colonel and after Joe's relationship with her heats up, she and her husband move to the States. Joe follows her. A brutal confrontation results and Joe finds sanctuary by heading to war in Vietnam. There he finds the perils of war, lifelong friends, and meaningful surprises.
