The year is 1998, and Jill Grinager is exhausted. As the one-armed, middle-aged owner and operator of the lone funeral home in the dying small town of Rockdale, MN, her life is already pretty bleak. This is compounded, however, by her responsibilities of being the legal guardian of her eccentric Elvis-obsessed nephew, Randall, who cosplays as the famed King of Rock & Roll every single day. One morning, Jill learns that rising political star Vicky Veitch, a source of torment from her past, is returning to town for the funeral service of her infamous father-in-law, who helped Vicky successfully transform her days as a grade school mean girl into a thriving political career. While Jill hopes for a quick and painless funeral procession, Vicky complicates matters by using the death of her former mentor as a media opportunity. But through a comedy of fatal errors, criminal missteps, and bad luck, Vicky's political play turns into a deadly nightmare for her and her cronies. Jill and her rhinestone nephew become the only two standing in the way of salvaging the political career she's worked so hard to build.
