In Victorian era England, an eerie green shooting star is seen streaking through the sky from Mars. A crowd gathers on Horsell Common and discover a huge cylinder lodged in a great cater. When the sinister object opens, it becomes horrifyingly apparent the visitors from space have not arrived on earth with friendly intentions. After wiping out the entire crowd with a devastating heat ray, the alien invaders build massive, metal killing machines intent on the extinction of all mankind.
