Thunder Elk and the Fairy Children

Thunder Elk and the Fairy Children - Genie Ann Chow

Thunder Elk and the Fairy Children

Arianne, a little fairy princess, gets ready for the spring festival in Lilliweather with the fairy children of the land. But their elf friend, Fife, tells her about an evil ogre, Ogun, who kidnapped a fairy child, Jin, at his hut in the dark woods. The way to destroy the ogre, Fife says, is through the help of a magical Thunder Elk, who promised to protect the fairies since the distant past, and only appears in the winter time.

The princess tries to recite some poems through the summer and autumn, but as Fife said, the elk doesn't appear until Fife calls for him in the winter. They ride the elk to Ogun's hut, finding him counting his jewels piled high around the hut with the poor boy, Jin. When Thunder Elk recites his poem, the ogre sees a vision from his past of an evil fairy that kidnapped his little ogre friend. He sees that kidnapping Jin was just as evil as the time when his ogre friend was taken away by the fairy. When Arianne recites her own poem, Ogun finally lets go of Jin and falls into a trance.

At the next spring festival, the fairies are cheerfully getting ready to celebrate around the maypole. Arianne sees Ogun in the distance, half his beastly size. This time he feasts and plays with the fairies, reciting his own poem about his change of heart. He gives most of his jewels to Arianne, who in turn gives them to the fairies. Every year in the winter they gather together to celebrate all of their friendships.
