Vintage Art: James Bateman: 20 Botanical Prints is a curated portfolio of orchid illustrations from the book The Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala (1845 ) by James Bateman (1811-1897). Bateman was a British horticulturist, landowner, and renowned collector and scholar of orchids. By sponsoring expeditions he helped collectors to acquire rare orchid specimens. Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892 ), was employed by Bateman to create orchid paintings for the three orchid books that Bateman published.
