China's Seven Islands in the South China Sea: A Study in Reef Reclamation

May 2020 - China's Seven Islands in the South China Sea

This book contains detailed drawings of the buildings and structures built on the seven reefs that China has been quietly turning into man-made islands. These new islands are not nearly as large as some other reclamation projects in the news such as Palm Island in Dubai, the new Hong Kong Airport, Singapore's Industrial Center, and Holland's North Sea Wall. Nevertheless, these man-made islands have been the source of countless media reports over the last few years. Very little information is available about what is being built so we decided to gather as much as we could find and put it in a single document. Of course, some of the information available in the public domain is merely speculation and some of the images available were mislabeled. We found that some photographs claiming to be taken of one island are in fact photos of an entirely different location. One thing is certain, these reefs are no longer reefs. They are artificial islands.
