Elizabeth hasn't been home since she left for college a year ago and wishes she could keep it that way. Staying away helped bury the dark secret she keeps, and she fears going home to Wellbury will unearth it.

When her dad insists she come back for an annual barbeque before sophomore year begins, Elizabeth has no choice but to return. She tells herself - It's only two nights - and plans on a quick visit home before returning to school. If only life were that predictable. What she learns upon her arrival will turn her whole world upside down.

As the memories from last summer begin to suffocate her, she spirals further into darkness when she discovers she isn't the only one hiding the past. As everything she thought she knew unravels around her, she no longer recognizes herself. She must find her voice, stand up and decide who she wants to be, and how she wants to live her life. Even if that means saying goodbye to the people she loves.
